Arjun bought a rectangular plot of length x units and breadth y units and then he sold a triangular part of it of base y units and height z units. Write an algebraic expression to calculate the area of the remaining part. Also, calculate the area of remaining part when x = 12 units, y = 8 units and z = 6 units.

Answer:

 \frac{y(2x - z)}{2}  \\ and \: 72

Step-by-step explanation:

part1

area of the rectangle= length x breadth

=xy

area of the triangle=1/2 x base x height

=(1/2)yz

area of the remaining part

= area of the rectangle- area of the triangle

 = xy -  \frac{1}{2} yz \\  =  \frac{2xy - yz}{2}  \\  =  \frac{y(2x - z)}{2}

part2

if x=12 y=8 z=6

area of the remaining part

 =  \frac{8(2 \times 12 - 6)}{2}  \\  =  72
