let Arjun be denoted by A, and Shriya be denoted by S.

Now according to the first statement
A = 2S  [eq. 1]

According to the second statement
A-5 = 3(S-5)  [eq. 2]

Solving the second equation, we get,
A-5 = 3S-15
A = 3S-10

putting the value of A in eq. 1, we get,
3S-10 = 2S
3S-2S = 10
S = 10
A = 2S
A = 2x10
A = 20

hence,
Age of Arjun is 20 years, and that of Shriya is 20 years.

solution:

\footnotesize\texttt{Let us take shriya's age be x years. }

\footnotesize\texttt{then arjun's present age would be 2x years.}

\footnotesize\texttt{shriya's age five years ago was (x-5) years. }

\footnotesize\texttt{arjun's age five years ago was (2x-5) years. }

\footnotesize\texttt{it is given that arjun's age five.}

\footnotesize\textsf{ year ago was three times shriya's age.}

Thus,

\small\mathtt{2x-5=3(x-5) }

\small\mathtt{2x-5=3x-15 }

\small\mathtt{15-5=3x-2x }

\small\mathtt{10= x }

so,shriya's present age =x =10 Years .

therefore, arjun's present age =2x=2×10=20 years.
