Step-by-step explanation:

No. of soldiers =7500

Clearly it is between 85² & 90²

85²- 7225 and 90² - 8100

86 ² - 7396

87 ²- 7569

So nearest perfect square number to 7500 is 7396

So, it is 86 ²- 7396

Left out =7500−7396

=104.
