.Around 9 pm in the evening, I heard a loud noise outside my room. I knew it was the sound of a rat in trouble. Torch in hand, I ran out and saw a snake, a Whitaker boa ( a type of snake) strangling the life of a rat. Neither the boa nor the rat was not going anywhere. I ran quickly inside and was out in less than 20 seconds with a camera. The Whitaker boa is smooth with light marks on its reddish colored skin. It has a round smooth scaled tail just like the common sand boa. Like other boas, it gives birth ( does not lay eggs like other snakes)
Whitaker boas have a poor eyesight, so the torchlight wasn't going to be an issue at all.
In less than 10 mins, it swallowed the rodent. With the rodent now securely inside its belly, the snake began flicking its tongue again. Perhaps to find a burrow to crawl into!
It wouldn't be long before my dog or cat found it and started bothering it. So I gently picked it up with my snake hook and placed it in a thickly forested patch on the other side of our wall.
