1 ) German invasion of Poland on September 1st , 1939 . This started officialy World War II .

2 ) Soviet invasion to Poland on September 17th , 1939 . Polish troops were focused on the German invasion , the Soviets quickly gained Eastern Poland .

3 ) Winter War started on November 30th , 1939 . The Soviet Red Army inaded Finland with over 500,000 troops . Although the Finns risisted heroically , they were outnumbered and forced to cede 11 territories .

4 ) German attack on France started on May 10th , 1940. Germany began the attack against Belgium , Holland and France . On May 13th the german troops emerged form the Ardennes .

5 ) Soviet occupation of Latvia on June 17th , 1940 . The Soviets formed a new government organizing elections with only one list of approved candidates .
