The stability order is-

CH_3<CH_3CH_2<(CH_3)_2CH<(CH_3)_3C

  • A tertiary carbanion is more than a secondary carboanion and a primary carbanion.
  • Again as the number of a methyl group increases in a carbanion, the carbanion become more stable.
  • Thus in the case of methyl carbanion, it is primary so least stable.
  • Ethyl carbanion is also 1° carbanion but it has one methyl group so, moderately stable.
  • Propyl carbanion is 2° so stable.
  • A tertiary carbanion is 3° so, highly stable.
  • Thus the stability order will be-
  • CH_3<CH_3CH_2<(CH_3)_2CH<(CH_3)_3C
