Arrange the following elements in the increasing order of their atomic radius.
Boron, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Carbon and Beryllium.
B) Two elements X and Y have a tendency to lose electrons. With chlorine and oxygen these
elements will form XCl, X2O, YCl2 and YO compounds.
i) Identify the groups of X and Y.
ii) If both X and Y belong to same period, then which element will have greater effective

Explanation:

(A) correct order of increasing order of at omic radius as follows: Oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, boron, berilliyium. (B) (i) X element will belong to 1 group of modern periodic table while Y element will belong to 2 group of modern periodic table. (ii) Y element will have more effective nuclear charge due to its small atomic radius than X element.
