To arrange :  following numbers in the ascending order .

Given data : \frac{1}{4} ,\frac{5}{6} , \frac{5}{8} ,\frac{7}{12} , \frac{1}{2}

Solution :

  • To arrange numbers in ascending order is to write numbers from smaller to bigger.
  • Therefore , to arrange given rational numbers in the ascending order we need to equalize denominators of all the rational numbers by takin LCM .
  • Therefore , LCM = 24
  • Now , multiplying numerators by same numbers as multiplied by denominator to make LCM .
  • Therefore, we get , \frac{1\times 6}{24} , \frac{5\times 4}{24} , \frac{5\times 3}{24}, \frac{7\times 2}{24} ,\frac{1\times 12}{24}

                                        = \frac{6}{24} ,\frac{20}{24} ,\frac{15}{24} ,\frac{14}{24} , \frac{12}{24}

        Ascending order :   \frac{6}{24} < \frac{12}{24} < \frac{14}{24} <\frac{15}{24} < \frac{20}{24}

Hence , ascending order is :  \frac{1}{4} < \frac{1}{2} < \frac{7}{12} < \frac{5}{8} < \frac{5}{6}
