To arrange : following numbers in the descending order .

Given data : \frac{-5}{12} ,\frac{1}{4} ,\frac{7}{8} ,\frac{5}{6}

Solution :

  • To arrange numbers in ascending order is to write number from smaller to bigger.
  • Therefore , to arrange given rational numbers in the ascending order we need to equalize denominators of all the rational numbers by taking LCM .
  • Therefore , LCM = 48
  • Now , multiplying numerators by same numbers as multiplied by denominator to make LCM .
  • Therefore, we get , \frac{-5}{12} ,\frac{1}{4} ,\frac{7}{8} ,\frac{5}{6} = \frac{-5\times 4}{48} ,\frac{1\times 12}{48} ,\frac{7\times 6}{48} ,\frac{5\times 8}{48}

                                                         = \frac{-20}{48} ,\frac{12}{48} ,\frac{42}{48} ,\frac{40}{48}

Ascending  order : \frac{-20}{48} <\frac{12}{48} <\frac{40}{48} <\frac{42}{48}   or  \frac{-5}{12} <\frac{1}{4} < \frac{5}{6} <\frac{7}{8}
