Answer:

  • The ascending order of different types of friction is : Rolling Friction ∠ Sliding Friction ∠ Static Friction ∠ Limiting Friction.

Explanation:

  • Friction is the force that resists motion between any two surfaces that come into touch with one other.
  • There are several forms of friction, which are as follows:
  1. Static Friction - The frictional force that acts between two surfaces while they are at rest with regard to each other is defined as static friction.
  2. Limiting Friction - The force of static friction exerted on a stationary object when the object is just about to move is referred to as limiting friction. It is the maximum value of static friction that a body can exert on the other body
  3. Sliding Friction - The force that a surface applies to an object as it starts to slide along it is known as sliding friction.
  4. Rolling Friction - The force that resists the rolling motion of an object when it rolls over a surface is referred to as the rolling force.
  • The limiting friction has the highest magnitude, while the rolling friction has the least magnitute.
  • This is due to the fact that rolling friction is occurs when an object rolls over another surface; as a result, there is very little space and time for the points of contact to interlock, resulting in the least amount of friction.
  • Similarly, sliding friction occurs when an object slides over another, thus it must maintain the same speed, and  However, sliding friction has a greater magnitude than rolling friction because an object moves faster when it rolls than when it slides. As a result, points of contact have more time to interlock in sliding friction than in rolling friction.
  • When an object is at rest, static friction comes into play. However, because the points of contact are so closely interlocked with one another, the force needed to overcome this friction while moving an object is the greatest. As a result, the limiting friction has the largest magnitude.
  • The ascending order of different types of friction is : Rolling Friction ∠ Sliding Friction ∠ Static Friction ∠ Limiting Friction.
