Arrange the following: In increasing order of basic strength: C₆H₅NH₂, C₆H₅N(CH₃)₂, (C₂H₅)₂NH and CH₃NH₂

C6H5NH2 is less basic in nature than C6H5N(CH3)2 due to +I effect which is their due to –CH3 groups in the (C6H5)2NH.

If we move further then there is only one –CH3 group in CH3NH2 while there are two C2H5 in the (C2H5)2NH group.

Hence, (C2H5)2NH will be more basic. Hence, the order will be,

C6H5NH2 < C6H5N(CH3)2 < CH3NH2 < (C2H5)2NH
