Arrange the following in order of property indicated:
(i) NH3, PH3, AsH3, SbH3, BiH3 ( Increasing basic strength)
(ii) H2Se, H2Te, H2Po, H2S, H2O ( Decreasing order of thermal stability )

Answer:

(i) BiH3<sbH3<AsH3<PH3<NH3.

From nitrogen to Bismuth size increases as we go down the group hence electron density increases so basicity decrease.Basicity decreases down the group.

(ii) H2O>H2S>H2Se>H2Te>H2PO

Thermal stability of elements in group 16 decreases down the group.
