Mechanism of hearing

1. Firstly the sound is collected by the ear pinna.

2. Then sound passes through ear canal in the ear drum.

3. In the ear drum sound vibrates in response to the sound waves.

4. Sound passes through ear ossicles malleus, incus, and stapes which increase the efficiency of the sound waves.

5. In the perilymph of scala vestibuli waves are generated and are passed to endolymph of scala.

6. Vibrations are generated in endolymph of scala through the reissner's membrane.

7. Now those vibrations are collected by organ of the Corti and then hair cell bends against the tectorial membrane.

8. Now the sound reaches in the auditory nerve through afferent fibres and goes in the auditory cortex of the brain.

9. Finally in the auditory cortex sound is analysed and also reconisation of the sound wave occurs.
