The speed of sound is maximum in a solid medium because the molecules are closer together, allowing sound waves to travel more quickly through it.

In liquids, the molecules are less closer allowing the waves to travel at a less speed as compared to that of solids

In Gases, the molecules are least closer to each other and are very loosely packed. Hence, the waves travel at the least speed.
