The Allahabad Pillar is essentially a single shaft and is made of polished sandstone. It has a height of 10.7 meters with an upper diameter of 0.7 m and a lower diameter of 0.9 m. The pillar bears inscriptions of three great emperors of three different dynasties – Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty, Samudragupta and Jahangir of the Mughal Dynasty. It is specifically noted today for Samudragupta’s inscriptions.

The Allahabad Pillar is Ashoka Stambha which means pillars of Ashoka.

There are various inscriptions on the pillar which have their own art and architectural importance.

The three columns of the pillar have three different inscriptions by three different emperors namely Ashoka Maurya, Chandragupta Maurya and Jahangir.

Some are also done by the pilgrims which are coupled by the scripts and styles used by then.

This is an amazing piece of art and architecture.
