The Malla period in Nepal lasted from 1200 to 1768. The Philadelphia Museum of Art claims that the Malla period was “a Nepalese Renaissance.” Almost all fine examples of arts in Nepal are the products of this golden age. The Malla rulers made the capitals of 22 principalities into the finest examples of Malla art and each of these capitals turned into something of a museum through the addition of art. The Malla period in Nepal focused heavily on Buddhist and Hindu practices and most of the works were influenced by the religious principles of the two. The following examples of art are from the Malla period and will hopefully provide some insight into the influence of the arts during the Malla period.
