to flow the blood back veins need some pressure which are created by valves.moreover valves help to control the one way flow ofblood through the veins .this why they have valves to stop the back flow of blood .as the arteries transport blood with high pressure they have thick elastic walls to withstand the pressure

Because when heart pumps blood it pumps it with high pressure so to ensure that arteries do not brust open they are thick walled. On the other hand in the veins blood flows very slowly to stop the immediate backflow of blood veins have valves present in them.
