Know that area of a circle \[ = \pi {r^2}\]

\[\therefore \pi {r^2} = 38.5\]

Put, \[\pi  = \frac{{22}}{7}\]

\[ \Rightarrow {r^2} = \frac{{38.5 \times 7}}{{22}}\]

\[ \Rightarrow r = \sqrt {12.25} \]

\[ \Rightarrow r = 3.5\,{\rm{cm}}\]

Hence, the radius of the circle is 3.5 cm.
