➡Bharat Bandh is known by some organizations over the alleged “dilution” of SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act damaged daily life across some areas of India as protesters blocked rail and road traffic and resorted to brutality and arson in Rajasthan, Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana along with national capital. Now, data from the National Crime Records Bureau on which the Supreme Court based its recent judgment that sought to save public citizens and private servants from random arrests under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, show that the rape of Dalit women has been just twice in the last 10 years. The data shows only a tip of the iceberg since most Dalits do not file cases for fear of retaliation by higher castes.

➡The brutality is dreadful and unjustifiable. However, what the brutality has also done is change concentrate away from the causes of the objection, with the discourse now dominated by the mischief and blame game over who was answerable for it.

➡The government on Monday orders a review appeal on the Supreme Court judgment on the SC/ST Act. But, Supreme Court reduces an urgent hearing on an appeal which silicate a stay and review of its recent judgment on SC/ST Act.

➡In acknowledgment, to the ongoing nationwide objection called by some Dalit organizations, BSP Chief Mayawati said, “Anti-social things were sent to cause violence during the objection resulting in loss of life some people and harm to public property”
