Discipline Is Learnt In The School Of Adversity

Adversities and sufferings are the best things that ever happen to a man or woman. They are tests passing which we emerge victorious, wise, and experienced. All men and women face adversities. Those who take them courageously become successful; those who whine, pine, and grumble, they fail. If adversities visit us, it means we invite them through our own recklessness and unrighteousness.

Adversities teach us many virtues such as patience, focus, self-control, hard-work, perseverance and discipline. Adversities keep us on our toes. When we are prosperous, we tend to become complacent and relaxed. We love to be in our comfort zone; however, adversities push us to our limits. It is in adversities we learn the value of life’s invaluable things. We learn to value time; we learn the difference between what is truly right and what appears to be right. In adversities, we give our best. All these things put together make us highly disciplined.

It has been said that those whom God chooses to be blessed, he first tests their worthiness by sending adversities to them. Jesus had to face so many adversities before he rose to heaven! Helen Keller had to face adversities on every step she put forward. She fought her darkness, hearing and speech disabilities and emerged as a better personality. Booker T Washington faced so many adversities and rose from being a slave to one of the most successful educationist in the world! Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther, Albert Einstein, all faced adversities and they never let them make them bitter. They made themselves better human beings and God blessed them with success in their fields.

It is true indeed that discipline is learnt in the school of adversity. So, we must sublimate our bitterness into betterment in the fire of adversities.
