Education is precious — we should be grateful
For over 70 million children around the world, these so-called ‘issues’ are an unprecedented luxury.

“IN THE YEAR 2000, A BILLION PEOPLE COULD NOT READ OR WRITE THEIR OWN NAMES. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT ACCEPTABLE.”

According to a 2005 study, less than 75% of children in third world countries reach the equivalent of UK Year 6 in their school education, due to poverty and poor resources.

For more than 100 countries, the tuition we take as a basic right is not free, and many families cannot afford the costs.

Even for those lucky enough to receive an education in poor regions, it is to a low standard, with overcrowded classrooms, few supplies and untrained teachers.

UNICEF states that, in the year 2000, a billion people could not read or write their own names. This is simply not acceptable.

Education opens doors to the wider world, empowering children who can pass on their knowledge to friends and family whilst reducing the chance of contracting fatal diseases, and boosting the economy and general richness of their lifestyle.
