Entrance test is the right method of selecting students
There is a considerable debate going on whether entrance tests to important courses should be conducted or not. Though the lobby against the abolition of entrance tests is much stronger, yet there is noticeable hue and cry from those who are against such tests. I strongly feel the need of having entrance tests. I personally feel entrance tests act as sieve. They eliminate unwanted participants and aspirants from a particular field, who if not eliminated would cause unwanted and unnecessary wastage of time, money, and other resources. Entrance tests are a kind of aptitude tests that determine whether the ones taking the tests are capable of taking the pressure of the courses they intend to pursue. Those who pass these tests surely have the basic linguistic, mathematical, analytical and other required abilities that are required for learning more such abilities in the courses that start after the qualification of these entrance tests.
For instance, aspirants intending to join MBA, have to clear CAT. It tests the aspirants’ linguistic, analytical and mathematical abilities which these aspirants must possess to do justice to the MBA course. Imagine what would happen if anyone would be free to join MBA. These aspirants will not only find it difficult to cope up with the intellectual pressure and other challenges of the subjects in the course, but also cause hindrance and distractions in the comprehension of the capable aspirants. Similar things will happen in any other course. So entrance tests are a wonderful tool to screen the capable aspirants from the incapable ones. They must be conducted.
