This article considers the explicit and implicit analyses in feminist scholarship of the power of men. The concern is with men's individual and collective expressions of power in interpersonal relations, groups, and social institutions in the individual and social exploitation of women. In particular, the focus is on feminist theory arising out of violence against women and the new developments in science and technology in relation to human reproduction. The ways in which relevant parts of the state interact with commercial and scientific interests and/or utilise an ideological construction of the family in the exploitation of women will be pursued. The aim is to raise questions and issues both about how power is gendered; its distribution, exercise, and maintenance, and how to further an analysis of the social dominance of men, including the creation of a role for men in this scholarship.
