Grades or marks form a big influential element in a student's life. Grades benefiteducation in best possible interest of a student and his or her learning ability.
Despite of having the opposing viewpoints, it seems some kind of outside reward is almost always expected. Backbone can be used as a metaphor for grade in the academic society. It acts a motivational factor for students to get a better grade. In turn, these grades promote competition between students, as far as grade points averages are concerned.

Many public or private schools are transitioning to standard-based grading system which rates a student's proficiency in individual standard-based skills. It has largely eliminated the marks system drawbacks and by its reaping benefits.

A grading system in education is a system that is used to assess the educational performance of a child which is entirely based upon points alone.
Grading system does not provide an opportunity to make the child think out of the box or freely develop the thinking about any inkling of an idea or get involved with any of the intellectual speculation.

Advantages of Grading System in Education:
1. Takes the pressure off from the students at certain levels
2. Grading pattern description
In India the general pattern is as follows
A1: 91 to 100
A2 : 81 to 90
B1: 71 to 80
B2: 61 to 70
C1 : 51 to 60
C2 : 41 to 50
D for 33 to 40 and lesser for E’s.
3. Gives the students an obvious idea about their weaknesses and strengths.
4. Make class works easier.

Disadvantages of Grading System in Education:

1. It doesn’t instill a sense of competition.
2. Not an accurate representation of the performance and the knowledge gained.
3. It is not an exact scoring system.
