Answer:

Are we the same as we were 100 yrs ago? could our ancestors enjoy the same life like what we are enjoying today?can one name a single thing where science has not touched it's feet??? it all accounts to how science has advanced and changed our lives....

right from the invention of a small safety pin to a huge rocket ,science has enriched our life to the fullest.

The invention of penicillin has helped us as much as the eradication of smallpox around the world...

but one can't always go on bragging about the merits of anything can they???just as much helpful science has been to the human race,it has also been as destructive.

from nuclear bombs to illegal dna engineering, the list is endless...

at the end the only thing that matters is how we use potential things for some good.and in this case one can't argue about the potential of science

Answer:

The discussion about the societal effects of science would not be complete without discussing the linkage between basic science and patents. Patents are seen as the embodiment of research as they describe unique processes, methodologies and products which are the result of extensive scientific research. Patents are the link between science and market, between concepts and prototypes – and they serve as a step in the process of converting ideas into economic growth.

This topic was the focus of the American Competitiveness Initiative of 2006. One of the examples given by the White House at that time was the basic sciences that led to the development of the iPod ™ (see Figure 1). This type of linkage between basic science and innovative products is at the heart of Francis Narin’s work as the first researcher to investigate this by studying the connections between basic research and innovation.
