Answer:

The craze of adventurous and exciting sports among youngsters in the city is skyrocketing like never before. Experiencing life outdoors and exploring unchartered terrain, those young at heart are taking to

trekking

kayaking

water rafting

canoeing

scuba diving

rock climbing

and more to get an adrenaline rush. Here’s a look at the most exciting adventure sports that is keeping Raipurites busy.

Boosts confidence

For some youngsters, adventure sports has been instrumental in increasing confidence. Chhavi Khandelwal shares, “Taking up adventure sports has made me come out of my shell. It awakened the inner driving force in me and provided with the potential to reach self-actualization. Let nature live in us too.”

A part of new year resolution

“I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, but every year, I make a promise to myself to do something I am afraid of and have never done before. Bungee jumping last week was one such experience. I think everyone should have one such experience while they are young,” opines Anjali Sodani, 20, an engineering student, who went on an adventure trip to Rishikesh last week. Shubhi Goyal, who accompanied her, says, “Going places creates life long memories. From my own experience, adventure has brought in challenges, emotions, friendships and confidence in my life.”

Managerial skills and leadership qualities come handy

City youngsters Rakesh Jain and Prince Makkad have a similar perspective about taking challenges through adventure sports. “Trekking in the forest with just a backpack converts you into an explorer,” says Rakesh Jain. “Managerial and leadership skills, decision making and survival of the fittest comes handy with adventure sports,” adds Prince Makkad.

Adventure sports is more a meditation

For Ankita Jain, an assistant professor at SGSITS college, who took a trip to Kareli Lake for mountain climbing, adventure sports is more like meditation. She says, “I enjoy trekking, star gazing and adventure. I love feeling my heart beat which grows faster when I jump from a mountain peak (flying fox), when I fight with tides (river rafting), when I explore aquatic life (scuba diving) and when I fly in the open air (parasailing). These activities are more like ‘meditation’ than adventure.

Increasing Trend of Adventure Sports

- by Alan

In consonance with substantial change in the psychology of modern Indians, demand for recreational and adventurous sports has increased. Instead of spending a holiday or leisure time relaxing at home, in resorts or on beaches, people now prefer to discover the adventurers streak in them to refresh themselves.

The increasing number of young travellers from India heading abroad to take part in adventure activities confirms this fact. This boom in demand for adventure sports makes a positive impact on the tourism industry in a lot of countries. Trekking, skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, parasailing, river rafting and many more sports are popular in India. The demand for these and other adventures has doubled over the last decade. Apart from the recreational benefits, there are a lot of economical benefits attached to the boom in this industry.

Therefore, India should develop more and more adventurous sports facilities so that tourists from India and abroad can make use of them.
