Today I am going to tell you about the importance of January 30 in India. January 30 is observed as Martyr's Day or Sarvodaya Day in India. It is named in the honour of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Martyr's Day is observed at national level. The defence force pays homage to the martyrs at India gate which was originally called All India War Memorial and designed by  the eminent British architect Edwin Lutyens as a memorial to the 82,000 soldiers of the undivided British Indian Army who died in the period 1914–21 in theFirst World War.The archway has the names of the martyrs embossed on it (click on the wall).
The date also marks the death of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of The Nation. On this day the president, the vice president, the prime minister, the defence minister, and the three Service Chiefs assemble at the Gandhi Memorial at Raj Ghat, lay wreaths and pay their respects to the Father of the Nation . The Last Post is sounded with bugles by the armed forces. As a mark of respect the inter-services contingent reverse arms . As a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and other martyrs two-minutes silence is observed throughout the country at 11 AM. All-religion prayers and rendering of 'bhajans" (devotional songs) are also significant features of this event
