Answer:

These days online courses/training have become extremely popular, as more and more institutes and companies are offering courses online. However, despite the popularity of online education, vast groups of people consciously stay away from such methods, mostly due to misconception. At the same time, despite the rising popularity of online courses, traditional (classroom) training is fighting back and trying to adopt newer means of retaining learners' interest. There are always two sides of a coin. For some individuals, online training is more appropriate, while for others classroom training is the preferred delivery method.

Let us compare the two methods.

“Online learning is better than classroom education”

This statement is no less than an insult to the schools and classrooms which have been the potters moulding our lives since almost ancient times. It is an insult to all teachers who put in their huge effort and hard work into not only imparting education to their students, but also shaping their characters. Hence, according to me this statement is totally untrue.

What is online learning? Sitting in front of a computer, damaging one’s eyesight, replaying videos with absolutely no character development or increase in logical thinking power is what happens in online learning. The only thing it achieves to an extent is the conceptual clarity. However, is replaying videos almost 5 to 10 times beneficial in the long run?

According to a study, online learning impacts the ‘grasping power’ which is the ability to understand a particular concept fast. However, classroom education provides a major increase and constant development in this power.

A major difference that can be observed in the topic itself is online ‘learning’ and classroom ‘education’. There is a large difference between learning and education. Learning is only providing conceptual clarity whereas education involves the all-round development of a student. Online ‘learning’ is only for study purposes i.e. academics; whereas a classroom education involves social interaction with people of the same age, value and ethical education, behavioural adaptations, respect and honestly to adults and a competitive spirit. None of these advantages of classroom education can ever be satisfied by sitting in front of a computer in isolation and listening to the person speaking, many a times not even interacting with them.

Classroom education is never stuck only to textbook reading and knowledge. Heated arguments on topics not always related to study, has a positive effect on a student who starts feeling strongly about a particular topic and sends in him a feeling of responsibility to family and society. This feeling is very important as it results in an all-round development of not only the student, but also setting up a progress-based thinking of the student who represents the future generation. It nurtures a child in a way which is important in the long run and forms an excellent basis for nurturing youngsters who are the future of the country.

I can convincingly say that none of these points can be satisfied by online learning; hence I would like to strongly conclude by saying that ‘online learning is no way better than classroom education’.
