Reckless driving thrills but kills

Driving is a pleasure, but reckless driving is a killer.Speed thrills but it kills. But who cares? Today our roads are fast becoming a theater of madening public behaviours with motorists becoming more and more intolerant and reckless. A number of accidents occurs daily and this number is increasing everyday. Most of the drivers of trucks and buses drive under the influence of liquor, especially at night. Car drivers also do not lag behind. Consequently there is a spurt in accidents, which would have beeen avoided , had the driver been sober. In these accidents hundreds of people die everyday---Mothers lose their sons, sisters lose their brothers and wives their husbands. Hundred of students become orphans. But nobody pays attention to this tragic reality. And as for the cops, it is an everyday affair . The government should act tough in this and take effective measures to control reckless driving. Those who drive their vechiles recklessly should be caught and put behind bars. The drivers should be taught the value of human life . They should be made to respect the rules of the road. All vechicles must be periodically checked for their road worthiness.

Road accidents are increasing due reckless driving by adults as well as youngsters and minors which causes accidents and results in injuries and lost of life.

Traffic rules prohibit driving by underaged children, overspeeding, driving on the wrong lane, parking in no parking zones, bikers without helmet, car drivers without driving license or without seat belts, driving under influence of intoxicants, etc. The penalties to the defaulters are clearly defined. It can be a fine or imprisonment or both. Overspeeding and ignoring traffic lights and driving under the influence of alcohol must be viewed seriously. There are several hit and run cases everyday. It is also necessary to introduce road safety lessons in the text books of schools and colleges. Students must be taught the necessity of safe driving and learn to honour the sanctity of human life.

Further, no driving license should be issued to minors. No license should be given to anyone until they have passed from driving schools with satisfactory performance.

A reckless and irresponsible driver endangers his own life, the life of other drivers as well as passengers and pedestrians. It is heartbreaking to see any young person whose life is cut short because reckless driving. Speed thrills but kills. We must remember that it is better to drive safely and reach home alive.
