Accidents occur due to carelessness. We see and hear of many accidents in the day as well as night time. Most of these accidents take place because a person is not careful. Many accidents occur in the rainy season, the reasons for this being manifold.
In the rainy season, the roads are badly damaged. There are potholes everywhere, which are filled with rain water. Pedestrians, busses, cars, trucks and scooters all fall a victim to these potholes. Vehicles try their level best to avoid the potholes but in the bargain they do not see the other oncoming vehicles and so an accident takes place. Sometimes these accidents are very serious and many precious lives are lost.
The number of accidents in our country can be reduced to quite an extent. First and foremost, the people should realise what is right and what is wrong. They should be more alert and attentive and should know precisely what they are doing.
The Government should repair the roads every year before the rains so that the number of accidents may be reduced. The drivers of vehicles should not drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol because being intoxicated, they do not follow the traffic rules. Parents and elders should see that their children who are under age should not be allowed to drive two or four wheelers on the highway. These reckless youngsters have been the reason for many innocent passers-by and cautions drivers to loose their lives.
Right from school going children to adults, everyone needs to be educated on road safety. Highly competent personnel from the traffic department should conduct these programmes with enlightening talks and slide shows.
A responsible citizen is a good citizen. A driver is responsible for his own and many other people's lives on the road.
Road accidents are undoubtedly the most frequent and, overall, the cause of the most damage. The reasons for this are the extremely dense road traffic and the relatively great freedom of movement given to drivers.
Accidents involving heavy goods vehicles (especially coaches and lorries with trailers) occur all too frequently despite caIls for responsible behaviour, for respect of the loading regulations and the highway code, as well as the obligation for drivers to adapt their speed, which affects stopping distances, to the traffic and weather conditions (rain, ice, fog, etc.).
The prevention of road accidents is also extremely important and will be ensured by strict laws, by technical and police controls, ongoing training for drivers (especially those involved in the transport of dangerous substances) and, if need be, by legal and administrative penalties for those responsible.
