The last few years have witnessed the maximum increase in motor vehicles in India. When owning a car was a far fetched next to impossible dream today's Indians possess not one but many cars and vehicles.
Gone are those days when students were gifted a cycle on their fourteenth or fifteenth birthdays, now they are gifted sparkling and speeding two- wheelers.
Buses are no longer the much awaited means of communication. Auto-rickshaws, E-rickshaws, Olas and Ubers, Taxi bikes are all the time sprawling on the road race.
Life in terms of communication has definitely improved but the safety of life is questionable. With so many vehicles plying along the road very few adhere to the rules and regulations of the road.
Most two wheelers do not wear helmets putting themselves and their co-travellers at a high risk. Four wheelers hardly fasten their seat belts.
Speed limits are never respected. In fact over shooting the speed is in vogue.
Signals are not obeyed . Buses are driven in the most reckless manner. To add fuel to the fire pedestrians also do not abide by the road rules.
In such a situation road safety is a burning issue. Every day about fifteen hundred people lose their lives in India.
It is high time that every Indian must ensure that road safety is followed. After all it is a safe drive that saves a life.
