The current position of senior citizens in an advanced and developing surrounding is really a sensitive topic. In an age, when the body is the house of several diseases, instead of providing proper health facilities and care to them, they are thrown out of their houses, as they seem to be a burden on their children. Mental and physical tortures are given to them.
Beside this, they have to face, financial, physical, emotional stresses as well. They feel to be neglected, outdated and unwanted. Children leave them in old age homes, and don’t care whether they are provided there with good facilities or not.
They feed us, whether they are not able to earn enough to save something for themselves. They fulfilled our each and every demand, whether necessary or not.
And at this age, they just want to be cared by their children. But does their small wish get fulfilled?
Certainly not, they are thrown out of the house.
We should respect our elders, and use their wisdom, we should not forget that everyone has to become old one day.
Statistics reveal that out of about 77 million senior citizens in India, as many as 90% have no social security and are emotionally depressed. Apart from brutality and neglect, the nation does not offer much to those who age.
A possibly solution is for society to be sensitised to ensure that loneliness does not become the sole companion of the aged.
