Technology has been critical to human development, but is our infatuation good or bad? It is still a mystery. I remember when I had a sick computer, and we called it a computer virus. But are we the ones who are “computer sick” (as my mom sarcastically calls it)? Let’s consider how people use cell phones and computers.
When is it too much?
People constantly use cell phones and computers to contact each other; it is easy to have a conversation without seeing each other face to face. Yet if there is something wrong with the technology or it did not exist, what would happen to us? People would probably just communicate things the old fashioned way. In my opinion, it is better to do things traditionally because it is the natural way. It is better to have conversations in person because we can see each other’s body language, facial expressions, and emotions.
What about computer usage? If computers did not exist, we would read books and dictionaries to find information and word definitions. Because they do exist, we find helpful information extremely easily without reading tons of books.
Kids and adults play video games on computers even more than traditional toys. Video gaming is unhealthy because it reduces vision and if you play before sleeping it is often hard to fall asleep. However, if you use high tech tools the right way, you will have a good experience without harmful effects.
Finding a Balance
The positive side of technology is that it is so valuable and useful that we can’t live without it. The negative side is that we have changed so much because its existence.

We have close animal relatives who use tools to this day and they still manage to live in harmony with nature while using appropriate technology. When we observe this in nature we can conclude that using tools and technology is neither good nor bad. It is the use to which they are put along, with the way they are implemented, that makes their impact good or bad. However some people think we should just to get rid of it all… Unless we want to return to the trees, it is impossible to remove all technology.”
