Before Independence, the nation was known to have a sense of unity and courage in order to achieve freedom, and they were ready to sacrifice anything they had.
After independence and the division into Hindus and Muslims as major category of our nation, it became extremely hard to figure out what nationalism stood for.
People were busy fighting over Ram Mandir to be built in Ajodhya and called it nationalism which was nothing but a fight to serve their ego and pride. This cannot be rationalized as patriotism and therefore as per my views, both of them: nationalism and patriotism should stay separated.
