Travelling a Therapy to Mind As Yoga to Body

According to Augustine, the world is a great book, of which they who never stir from home read only a page. It is a well established fact now that travelling gives a character to our knowledge. While travelling we have firsthand knowledge about the place we are travelling. We actually see the place with our own eyes, and its memory stays with us throughout our life. For example reading about Manali may be entertaining and appealing, but visiting Manali in person will surely be thousand times more entertaining and gratifying. Standing on the tallest peak Kinnaur Kailash Peak or roaming in the botanical garden, boat ride in the Pykara lake, visit to tea and coffee plantations at Ooty etc will fill you with ineffable thrill.

Travelling has many advantages to both body and mind. The monotony of routine activities affect the mind quite adversely. Its focus is weakened; efficiency plummets; and one just wants to run away to a world that is ‘far from the madding crowd’. This is why travelling is so much essential. Travelling just refreshes the mind and invigorates the body. Let’s see how traveling spices up life.

As we travel we meet more new people, cultures, and lifestyles. With all the newness in our life, we are also opened to new insights, outlook, perception of the world and living, which often gives us a new purpose for our lives. Our mind forgets the insipid burdens of his professional life. While travelling we make new friends at the new place and carry their memories home. Thus, travelling makes the inhabitants interconnected. We start feeling ourselves as members of one big family of mankind living on one home planet. This makes life more wonderful.

The physical benefits of travelling are equally as many as the mental benefits. While travelling one really has to exert a lot. It often requires a lot of travelling which demands lots of physical exercise. If one goes to a hill station, one has to climb up the steep slopes; one has to climb a lot of stairs to a holy shrine; or peddle a boat in a lake. The high amount of pure oxygen in the air detoxifies all the cells of human body. As a result one feels so wonderfully rejuvenated.

In conclusion it can be said that travelling is one of the most precious gifts of life, and we must relish it and enjoy its sundry life-transforming benefits.

Travelling works like a therapy on the human mind, which otherwise is so clouded with thoughts of the struggles of daily life, just as yoga works wonders in toning up and relaxing the human body.
Periodically, it is good to take a break from the humdrum of our monotonous lives and escape to the mountains, seacoasts or jungle resorts. Being away from our regular surroundings for a few days works wonders and, on our return, we can resume our routine work with renewed vigour and new-found energy. Rising early in the morning to watch the sun rise and bidding the ball of fire goodbye at sunset, watching an animal in its natural habitat in the forest or watching and hearing other sights and sounds is extremely exciting!
Besides the stay, food and people, which are expected to be somewhat different when we take a holiday, the journey itself is sometimes quite exciting, especially if we undertake it by train.
