Reluctance to attend classes have become a common phenomenon among today's students. Flared with a choice between attending lectures and going to movies, parties, they opt the latter. This tendency has invited serious problems in the society. Anti-social activities such as drug-addiction, smoking among others have increased significantly which has resulted in grave consequences on the part of the society.

The environment of the educational institutions in which students are pursuing their studies is a major factor that should be taken into consideration while addressing this problem. Infrastructures of the school/college, the quality of the faculties are crucial components of this environment.
It is of great significance to understand the learning psychology of the students to mitigate this problem. A teacher should respond positively to the changing aspirations of the students. For instance, the demand for interactive and practical based classes are ever increasing. Dull lectures tend to be boring and fosters the notion of bunking among students. Thus, it is obvious that the improvement in the teaching methodologies is likely to yield tangible results
for the welfare of students and the entire society..

                                                   Truancy

Some boys start from their homes but do not attend classes or even go to school. This is called truancy. It has become a common practice these days. It is particularly so in the senior classes. Let us try to think why it happens. Let me be forgiven for saying that more than anybody else, some teachers are responsible for it. They are very strict. For small faults, they punish the boys. Many a time, the faults are not deliberate. Then a bad company is equally responsible. Some boys turn truant only because of peer pressure. Parents' ignorance of what their wards are doing is also responsible in some cases. If we want to do away with this evil, teachers' behaviour should be more sympathetic. The attendance should be taken twice a day. There should be parent-teachers meetings.
