The market dynamics are all to be blamed for it as people can see and hear things in vicinity that promise glamour and success. As such, without proper verification, they take to them to falter later. Materialism is an age-old phenomena that has only extended with time. The last few decades have been particularly significant is promoting materialism in youths but it is also important that youths realise their importance and work towards a common goal for everyone's betterment without being too much materialistic.
