• In building a new India – a healthy, clean & prosperous nation, every citizen plays an important part. Everybody, even mechanically, perform their "fundamental duties" would open the way for a better neighborhood, a better society and, in the end, a better country.
• There are fundamental duties that many citizens do not respect such as "uphold & protect the sovereignty, unity, & integrity of India", where people fight in the name of religion, caste, origin etc thereby affecting the concept of national unity
• Another fundamental duty which states "value and preserve the rich "heritage" of our "composite culture". Our heritage & culture are greatly disrespected. For example, instances damaging our ancient monuments and heritage sites by way of vandalism or graffiti, or littering places of historical importance. Likewise in the name of "western culture" and "modern generation", people have forgotten their beliefs, values, norms &customs of the culture they are from as well as they tend to disrespect other culture too, for instance, the north and south cultural differences and conflicts
• Another fundamental duty that people do not abide is "abiding by the Constitution & respecting its institutions & ideals, the National Anthem & the National Flag. Many people do not respect the national anthem or flag, especially you will find people sitting when the National anthem is played instead of standing up as a mark of respect for the anthem. The concept of  promoting harmony & the common brotherhood spirit among all people of India transcending linguistic, religious, regional,  social or sectional diversities is almost non-existence. In India, in most places there is on-going communal discord that has been a major problem for India's unity
• Many of our  lakes, forests, wildlife, & rivers have been degraded to due to human activities and the fundamental duty of protecting & improving the natural environment has been forgotten by our citizens.
