This is a new millennial term used in 21st century very often. It means that machines(computers) will have intelligence like the human brain.    Previously computers were given  program codes based on which they did do the task.

But if we give them the intelligence such that they can think and comprehend

like the human beings. Then we are supposed to have achieved artificial intelligence. So artificial Intelligence or(AI) targets to develop the ability of the computers to learn thing on their own based on the data we feed them.

It is done by using complex algorithms like Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Linear Regression.
