Given:

Arun bought a bicycle for Rs. 300. He spent Rs. 85 on its repair and Rs. 25 on its painting and sold it to his friend for Rs. 500. Find his profit or loss percent.

To find:

His profit or loss percent.

Solution:

The cost price of the bicycle = Rs. 300

The cost of repairs = Rs. 85

The cost of painting the bicycle = Rs. 25

∴ The total cost price of the bicycle is,

= [Cost price of bicycle] + [Repair cost] + [Painting cost]

= Rs. 300 + Rs. 85 + Rs. 25

= Rs. 410

The selling price of the bicycle = Rs. 500

Since

The S.P. of the bicycle > The C.P. of the bicycle

⇒ Arun makes a profit in this transaction

Therefore,

The amount of profit is,

= S.P. - C.P.

= Rs. 500 - Rs. 410

= Rs. 90

Now,

The profit percentage is,

= \frac{Profit }{C.P.} \times 100

= \frac{90 }{410} \times 100

= \bold{21.95\%}

Thus, Arun's profit percentage is → 21.95%.
