Answer:

Distance travelled in 1st hour= 120 miles

Speed in the first hour= 60 mph

Distance travelled in 2nd hour= 120 miles

Speed for the next hour= 40 mph

Speed = distance/time

= 240/2

= 120 mph

Average speed= 120 mph

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1st distance of 120 miles at 60miles/ hour

time 1 = 120÷60 = 2 hours

Distance 1 is covered in 2 hours.

2nd distance of 120 miles at 40 miles/hour

time 2 = 120÷40 = 3 hours

total time = t1 + t2

                 =2+3 = 5 hours

average speed = total distance covered ÷ total time taken

                          = (120 + 120) ÷ 5

                          = 240÷5

                          = 48

Averge speed for the entire trip = 48 miles/ hour
