(a) no. of pages read on first day - x

no. of pages read on second day - 2x ( he has read twice more so we will multiply it by 2 )

equation - x+2x = 300

= 3x = 300

= x = 300 ÷ 3

= x = 100

So,no. of pages read on first day is x and x means 100 .
