Let the Arun's age be = x
His mother's age = 3x
3x-9 = 5(x-5)
3x-9 = 5x - 25
-9 + 25 = 3x-2x
16 = 2x
x = 8 
Arun's age = x = 8
Arun's mother age =  x * 3 = 24
