Given info : The displacement-time graphs of two moving particles make angles of 30° and 45° with the x-axis.

To find : the ratio of their velocities is ...

solution : we know, velocity is the rate of change of displacement with respect to time.

it means, velocity is the slope of displacement - time graph.

and we know, slope is the tangent of angle made by curve with positive x - axis. i.e., tanα, where α is angle made by curve with positive x- axis.

now ratio of their velocities = ratio of their slopes = tanα₁/tanα₂

= tan30°/tan45°

= (1/√3)/1

= 1/√3

Therefore the ratio of their velocities is 1 : √3.
