MASS OF BLOCK IS 4.5 kg

Given:

  • Block falls by 40 metres.
  • Work done is -1800 J

To find:

Mass of block ?

Calculation:

The change in height will cause a change in the potential energy of the block. This ∆PE will be equal and opposite to the work done.

  • Let mass of block be m.

\Delta PE = - W

 \implies mg(\Delta h) = - W

 \implies m \times 10 \times40= - ( - 1800)

 \implies m  =  \dfrac{1800}{400}

 \implies m  =  4.5 \: kg

So, mass of block is 4.5 kg.
