An outlier may be due to Error  in the measurement or due to  experimental error and is  excluded from the data set generally .

Q1 - First Quartile

Q3 - Third Quartile

IQR = Q3 - Q1

Data points outsides of

less than Q1 - 1.5 * IQR    , and more than Q3 + 1.5 * IQR  

are outlier

data point is an outlier   if its  1.5 * IQR   less than 1st Quartile

or 1.5 * IQR  more than 3rd Quartile
