As a matter of convention, an anticlockwise moment is taken as Positive and a clockwise moment is taken as negative. 


Conventionally, physics use a right handed coordinate system in 3D physics and here positive movements are measured as counter clockwise.


But this is a conventional theory and there are no scientific reasons behind this logic, because left handed people can interpret this equation on the opposite direction.
