40 Killed In MP Train Accident

Bhopal, Oct 18 - At least 40 passengers were killed and about 150 reported injured as four coaches of the 8033 Dn Ahmadabad-Howrah Express fell into river Hasdo in Madhya Pradesh today. The coaches fell from a bridge into the river near Champa, 40 km from Korba in Bilaspur. The accident occurred around 5.50 pm. The four coaches including one luggage van, one general compartment and two reserved coaches were badly affected. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The Chief Minister, with the senior officials rushed to the spot to speed up the rescue operation. The injured were sent to the Railway hospital at Bilaspore and Champa hospital. The Railway minister has expressed grief over the tragic accident and announced ex-gratia payment of Rs. 1 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed and Rs. 50000 for those seriously injured.
