Dear Diary:
Today I read the poem, Lord Ullin’s Daughter. I was immensely disturbed to read the tragic end. I believe the tragedy at the end could have been avoided! Their decision of running away was immature and irrational. If the lovers had tried a little more patiently, they would have succeeded in persuading Lord Ullin for their wedding. Three precious human lives would not have been lost!
As we know, at the end when Lord Ullin saw his daughter drowning, he called her back and assured her he would forgive her and her lover; but it was too late. Chieftain should have behaved responsibly. He should have advised Lord Ullin’s daughter to be more patient. Even Lord Ullin behaved quite recklessly; in place of chasing his daughter and her lover threateningly, he should have approached them like a father and convinced them to behave more rationally and normally. He should have told them he had no objection to their wedding. Everyone behaved irrationally and emotionally!
