Certainly pollution in river Ganga will affect human life greatly. This is because owing to its geographical location and dependence of living beings on it for several livelihood reasons.
Pollution is causing a great damaging effect on the ground water and soil along the river bedside. The natural ecosystem is getting hampered. Soil and water ecological balance is getting disturbed. Natural water bodies formed by River Ganga that are resources of drinking water are becoming unfit for human and animal consumption.

The Indo-Gangetic basin in turn is getting polluted and drastically deterrent for more agricultural production. Aquatic animals are getting coaxed to death due to water pollution. Human waste, industrial waste, religious traditions, cremations, etc. have all taken a toll on the purity and sanctity of River Ganga which had been a saviour of mankind since aeons.

Unfortunately, there is a separate Wikipedia page also on 'Pollution of the Ganges' for which Indians shall definitely not be proud of.
